Staten Island Technical High School was founded in 1988.

Housed in the former New Dorp High School building at 485 Clawson St., Tech has long been known for its academic excellence. The school consistently rates among the top public high schools in New York and the country.

Tech was initially the engineering program from Ralph McKee Vocational and Technical High School but was eventually spun off into its own school. Tech maintains its connection to McKee through a sports program partnership, which has seen citywide success with its football, volleyball and track teams.

Tech is widely recognized for its science and engineering curriculum, including its Career and Technical Education program. Tech’s makerspace business incubator, the Staten Island Tech Guild, allows students to hone their artistic, engineering and technical skills.

The schools renowned robotics program regularly competes in the NYC FIRST Robotics Competition.

The school also has an active theater program, including its “Sing!” production and spring musical.
